Data Usage Policy Guide
Use this guide before putting OilPriceAPI data into a public page, customer-facing product, resale feed, or downstream analytics product.
Default Safe Use
Standard self-serve plans are intended for internal business workflows:
- Internal dashboards
- Private analyst notebooks
- Backend pricing jobs
- Procurement, logistics, and fuel-cost workflows
- Internal reporting and monitoring
Keep source timestamps with displayed values and cache responses according to the relevant endpoint's freshness guidance.
Requires Review
Contact support before launch if your use case includes:
- Public display of raw or near-raw prices
- Reselling raw data
- Redistributing data through an API, file feed, spreadsheet, or widget
- Embedding prices in a paid downstream product
- Publishing derived indices or benchmarks based on OilPriceAPI data
- Large-scale caching or warehousing beyond ordinary application performance needs
Right-Sensitive Dataset Categories
These data families should always be reviewed for plan fit and usage rights:
| Dataset | Why Review Is Needed |
|---|---|
| Marine and bunker fuels | Maritime source and redistribution terms can vary |
| Futures and exchange-derived data | Exchange usage/display rights may apply |
| Carbon and emissions data | Market data and compliance use cases vary |
| Energy Intelligence / drilling data | Source cadence, provenance, and premium entitlement matter |
| Data-quality or benchmark-close outputs | Customer-specific or methodology-sensitive outputs |
Caching and Derived Data
| Pattern | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Short-lived application cache | Usually fine for performance |
| Long-lived raw warehouse | Review before launch |
| Internal derived metric | Usually fine if internal |
| Public derived index | Requires written approval |
| Raw CSV/API resale | Requires enterprise review |
